Two Philadelphia juries have found in favor of women injured by pelvic mesh products and awarded in excess of $10 million in each case. On February 10, 2016 Sharon Carlino was awarded $13.5 million for injuries she sustained including constant pain and discomfort and the inability to have sex. In December 2015 Patricia Hammons was awarded $12.5 million including $7 million in punitive damages. Ms. Hammons suffered extreme pain and underwent several revision surgeries due to the failure of the product. Both the Carlino and Hammons cases were against Johnson & Johnson.
A Missouri state jury on February 2, 2016 found Boston Scientific and C.R. Bard not liable for injuries alleged to have been caused by the companies’ pelvic mesh implants. The claim was brought by Eve Sherrer who suffered pain, difficulty walking and a “nonfunctional vagina” as a result of her implant surgery. In that case the jury found that the products were not unreasonably dangerous and found in favor of the defendants.
