Car seat manufacturer Evenflo has recalled 56,000 of its Transitions 3-in-1 car seats because children can potentially loosen the harness holding them into the car seat, putting them at a greater risk for injury.
The recall covers the Transitions 3-in-1 seats made from Dec. 18, 2014, to Jan. 29, 2016. The impacted Transitions model numbers are 34411029, 34411686 and 34411695, manufactured before Jan. 29, 2016.
The problem is with a front adjuster button that loosens the internal harness. When in the forward facing position, this button is within a child’s reach. If a child presses on the button, it loosens the harness, which could result in injury in the event of an accident. Evenflo discovered the issue in late January during its analysis of customer feedback. No injuries have been reported to the company.
Evenflo said that it would notify owners of the Transitions 3-in-1 seat recall and furnish a remedy kit, which will include a new seat pad and front assembly adjuster. The kit is being provided at no charge to consumers. The remedy kit can be ordered through the Evenflo website at www.transitions.evenflo.com or by calling the company’s ParentLink Consumer Resource Center at 1-800-233-5921.
The company says that parents should determine whether or not the seat could be used before being repaired by the remedy kit. It advises parents to observe whether or not their child is accessing the central front adjuster area. If they are not, then there is no risk that the adjuster will be activated. If they are, then the seat can still be used safely in the high-back or no-back belt positioning mode if the child weighs at least 40 pounds and is at least 43 inches tall. If your child does not meet that height and weight requirement, parents should cease using the car seat until the remedy kit is installed.
