The team at Showard Law Firm will be lacing up our sneakers this October 13 to proudly support other Tucson, Arizona community members at the annual AIDS Walk in support of the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF).
Now reaching its 31st year, the AIDS Walk is one of SAAF’s main fundraising events. This walk brings people together in an effective and positive way to raise awareness for the disease, support patients, and to collect money to fund its many programs. As both participants in the walk and as a sponsor, Showard Law Firm hopes to assist in SAAF’s mission to “cultivate a healthy and stigma-free society through transformative action.”
1.1 Million Living with HIV in the U.S.
The first cases of AIDS in the United States were recorded in 1981, with more than 700,000 people losing their lives to the disease since then. Now, more than 1.1 million people across the country are learning to live with HIV.
While education, research, stereotypes, and mortality and infection rates have improved since the start of the epidemic, there is still a vast amount of misinformation and stigmas that surround the HIV/AIDS community. New people become infected with HIV each year, and many go untested and untreated.
Why we support the AIDS Walk
Showard Law Firm has dedicated its practice to supporting and fighting for those affected by medical calamities and can empathize with the sudden and unjust impact that HIV/AIDS can have on an individual and his or her family. This is why they have chosen to support organizations like SAAF, which aim to bring some relief to those who are affected by the life-changing disease.
“As a personal injury attorney, I know that representing a client is more than standing up for them in the courtroom,” said Sarah Showard, founder of Showard Law Firm. “We must also stand by them in the community, which is why I support organizations and events like SAAF and the annual AIDS Walk.”
For more than 30 years, SAAF has supported the everchanging needs of the HIV/AIDS community by working to reduce societal stigmas, provide factual education on prevention and intervention, and offer programs and services that directly help those that have been infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
